MISSING MIGRANTS IN 2017

Spurred by conflict, natural disaster, persecution, and poverty, global populations are experiencing growing trends of forced migration. This journey for asylum seekers is more often fraught with danger at every juncture. Vulnerable populations experience perilous conditions at home, forcibly displacing them which requires travels through deadly routes.

Forced migration is a global challenge and evident in many broad and specific locations. Our initial geographic scope evaluated the spatial relations of migration globally. We zoom into the US-Mexico border and the Mediterranean Sea to perform geoprocessing operations for spatial analysis on rail lines and sea ports, respectively using reported migration deaths for 2017.
